Hello all, I'm new to D&D and have recently started a beginners campaign with my family. I have purchased the physical and digital versions of Heroes of the Borderlands and have had a great time setting up our characters and playing out first session. I tried to set up the campaign and characters on D&D Beyond but found that despite owning the digital edition, I was unable to select Heroes of the Borderlands when setting up from a premade campaign, though I can select the maps in vtt. Also, I do not get all the options that are available in the physical edition when making a character, namely the backgrounds. I can currently only choose from acolyte, criminal, sage and soldier, despite there being many more. Are these not included in the digital edition, despite being in the physical one?
Any help, plus any tips for a new DM would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.
The "premade campaigns" on D&D Beyond are basically just a new blank campaign with a preset name. There isn't one for Heroes of the Borderlands, but you're not really missing out on anything because they don't really do anything.
The four backgrounds you've mentioned are the ones included in the free Basic Rules product that everyone with a D&D Beyond account automatically has access to. The others are included in the Player's Handbook, which is a thing you have to purchase. I am surprised they're included in the physical Heroes of the Borderlands if they're not included in the digital one, but unfortunately D&D Beyond is not always super transparent about what's included in what digital product.
Would the premade campaign show up if they weren't sync'd? If so, that might be the issue, or that something's not selected during character generation.
Yeah that sounds about right from what I had read, hoped it was just something I hadn't ticked in a menu to sync it across but it seems like I'll need to fork out a bit more cash. Thanks for the reply
I think the "missing" backgrounds are included with the pre-made characters for Heroes of the Borderlands. You can find those characters by going to create a character and selecting the pre-made option. You can then scroll down to the Heroes of the Borderlands header.
As for campaigns on D&D Beyond, a campaign serves the following purposes:
Content sharing
Bought content (books) requires a subscription
Homebrew content is shared automatically without a subscription
Dice roll sharing
Rolls from character sheets
Rolls from the encounter builder (a 2014 tool)
Rolls from Maps VTT (see below)
Maps VTT linking
Character tokens can be brought into a map if they're linked to the same campaign
The DM can roll dice both manually and from monsters which will be shared in the game log
DDB campaigns don't do much beyond that, at least currently.
