What counts as spell casting?

I'm playing a paladin aov I picked up magic intiate Warlock using the background rewarded and for my variant human extra feat I picked up Warcaster the prerequisite is You must be able to cast at least one spell would the 1st level spell from magic intiate count as that one spell if it doesn't use a spell slot

Why do you want to get warcaster? and if you are a 4th level paladin (so you can get a feat) why don't you have spells?

I'm second level and it's just a build i want to try I'm new to dnd

The Ability to cast a spell from a feat means you can cast spells, even if you don't have slots. You now qualify as a "Spell caster" for all perquisites that require spell casting. 
So yes, you meet the requirements for Warcaster.

I'm going to add on here: To be a spellcaster, you must be capable of casting a spell yourself. Class, species and feat features all qualify. Magic items that grant spells do not.
