I am going to be finishing up Lost mine of Phandelver soon and was wondering what a good logical follow on game would be. One that would logically lead on from this area or adventure thread that they have been following thus far.
Storm King's Thunder gives directions for using it as a follow-up to LMoP, and Dragon of Icespire Peak and its three followups (Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake and Divine Contention) taka place in or near Phandalin as well. Rime of the Frostmaiden seems to be a popular choice for following LMoP too, but the logocal connection is less obvious.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
Storm King's Thunder can be started at chapter 2 with level 5 characters and one of the 3 options for that is in Triboar which is just down the road from Phandalin.
Storm King's Thunder might require some leg-work to providing a solid hook on to why the characters should care about what is going on with the Giants. If you just send them to Triboar and have that chapter's events unfold they might be clueless.
Storm King's Wrath and its follow-up adventures offers them to stay in the region they played in and a chance at having their efforts/actions directly reflect upon the town. Which, some might greatly enjoy having their mark appear upon the game.
When I read through Storm King I saw where the Dragon Queen adventures were a better match as they tie in to what is going on with the giants. Is there a way to tie Lost mines to those adventures?
Start laying some seeds now before your players finish LMoP so you have an easier time tying them together. Maybe some merchants arrive in town and are sharing rumors of giant sightings to the northeast. You could even use such NPC as a hook for the group to travel to either Goldenfield or Triboar after they're done in Phandalin.
You might also be able to turn the baddie of LMoP from a villain into a henchman for one of the giant clans. Put a note somewhere in the Echo Wave Cave for the party to find scrawled in giant that either they or an NPC in town would need to decipher. Or if all else fails, just use Zephryos - though I always felt his role was sort of forced in the story.
As I mentioned, the official suggestion from SKT's Appendix A is only the means of getting your players from Phandalin to Triboar and nothing more. Everything else will rely on you. You could even take the suggestion for tying Hoard to SKT and just have one of the factions (there are a few present in Phandalin) ask for aid off in Goldenfields and go from there.
