So in one of the D&D 3.5 campaigns I'm making a Wizard who is paranoid about their spell book and place an "Explosive Runes" spell on the front page so when someone starts to read it will explode to scare off the person who is attempting to read, but I don't want to have spend the time to get a new spell book. Is there any way I can make it so the spell getting set off won't destroy the book?
For those who don't know: Explosive Rune is Level 3 Wizard/Sorcerer Abjuration [Force] Spell in the 3.5 PHB I that when read explodes dealing 6d6 to the reader and those 10 ft. around the reader those who are near the reader can make a reflex save to take half damage but the reader must take full damage the may only be found and disabled by a Rogue that succeeds a DC 28 Search Check and Disable Device Check, and another creature with a Erase or Dispel Magic, and may be removed at will by the Caster at any chosen time. The caster and any person instructed how to can read the runes without triggering them
Upon reading the Glyph of Warding spell (the 5e successor spell) nothing in the write up targets objects only creatures, so your spell book should be safe.
