So I'm a very new player here and I joined the first group that accepted my application. Everyone is very nice, but I'm not sure the group gels very well.
The first problem is that the group is split with players living all across the world and the game starts close to midnight at my time and usually lasts for 3-4 hours. This means by the end my energy is drained and I'm just hoping for it to end.
The DM is very nice and accommodating, but I think his lack of proficiency with English puts a hamper on the experience. It's very difficult to make out what he is describing sometimes. Also, he recently just threw a CR 11 encounter at our lvl5 party of 4 members and only awarded us 450 exp for beating it which I don't understand at all.
The DM and another player (who I will refer to as "Rules Lawyer") seem to have a previous experience together. Rules Lawyer basically DMs the game more than the DM does. Making rulings, explaining how things work, correcting players, etc. I'm new, so I appreciate the help explaining the parts I'm fuzzy on, but it gets grating after awhile. He's definitely the guy that when he was a kid probably reminded the teacher there was homework because he's constantly pointing out forgotten rules that screw our party over.
Then we have a girl, who is cool, but I'm not sure if there's something wrong with her mic, signal, or anything else because every time someone asks her a question or tries to get her to make a roll it takes a good 20-35 seconds before there is any response. Literally half a minute of silence before someone asks if she's even there, which half the time she replies with exasperation saying that she's thinking, or looking at the map.
Then another guy, who is quiet, but chill. I like him. And a final guy who hasn't shown up to the last 3 sessions, so I don't even really count him anymore.
So there you have it. I don't know if I should leave and look for another group, or if I should just be grateful that I found a group of nice people. I do have fun when I play, but these issues just keep coming up and I think its starting to make me lose interest. What's even the protocol for leaving a group? I wouldn't want to just ghost them. That seems rude.
Sometimes you just have to say "I'm sorry but this isn't working for me anymore". Be polite and apologetic, of course, but by the sound of things you'd be better off finding a group closer to your timezone.
Alright, fair enough. Guess I'll start looking for a new crew and wait to leave until I find something else. I can always just say that the timezone is the main reason for leaving.

"The Epic Level Handbook wasn't that bad, guys.
Guys, pls."

You seem to be asking a question that you know the answer to.
Simply put. The timing doesn't fit your schedule and you probably need to find a game in a time slot that suits your life better.
