Let's say for example it's Glasstaff's magic staff from the LMoP starter set quest. I have a free account, I buy the LMoP set (or just the staff item) so I have access to it. The PCs defeat Glasstaff, and the Elf Sorcerer takes the staff as loot. If I want to drop the item on her character sheet, do I have to have the Master Subscription for her character to then have access to the staff?
If the player has access to the magic item, then you don't need a subscription. If the player does not have access to the magic item, then you do need a subscription.

There is a third option here. You can create a homebrew item that is a duplicate of the item in question, and then they can have it no problem. Just don't submit it, because it will obviously be rejected for copyright issues.

So either I pay for a subscription or they pay two dollars to unlock their shiny new item under their account correct ?
Correct.
