Hi! Im gonna play in a homebrew campaign mixed with Starlight Arcana. - We're starting level 6 and will probably end around lvl 14. - No multiclass allowed - Bard or Sorcerer preference (Rogue or Ranger might be an option, maybe Druid but none other) - I need something i cant easily be bored after a long time. E.G Moon druid is really fun all early, but past lvl 9 , it's getting less and less fun.
RP: - my character is gonna be an Eythereal (SA specific subclass) . "random" thing about this race, they dont eat or drink, but every 5 days, they have to consume magic item or life essence from someone at 0 hit points. - N alignment. - I'm gonna play it with a monotonous tone . my "goals" are : > Captain Holt from Brooklyn99 "I'm in terrible pain" , or "I've never been happier in my entier life" with the same face & tone. > IDA from Mass effect 3 (i have this scene from Citadel DLC in mind : " Some neighbors came by last night to complain about the noise. I put their bodies in the building incinerator. ...... That was a joke. "
I'm looking for any idea with this in mind. I'm more of a "front" player usually, but i wanna test something else. Also, with this RP, Bard or Sorcerer could be fun
The question you want to ask yourself is: what role in the party do you want this character to have?
Most Sorcerers are high-damage blaster or artillery types. Bards, by contrast, are kind of intended to be able to step into almost any role depending on the subclass you choose, but they often end up being played as support caster types.
I dont want specific role to be honest. We are going "blind" into our party, we dont know who we will deal with ! (And we are all ok with this, we played with each other on old campaign) Only thing i know, there is a Cleric (i asked dm for this information so we dont have 2 cleric)
But you have a point about Sorcerer, there are no subclass more versatile for Sorcerer ?
I think if what you're looking for is versatility, Bard is a much better choice than Sorcerer. That's not to say there aren't more versatile Sorcerer subclasses, but the Bard class as a whole is specifically designed to be versatile. The College of Lore subclass takes this the farthest, but Creation and Eloquence are also good all-around choices.
Y i thought about this subclass, but as i did a start campaign (only threw 6, campaign ended before i could go further) with it, i got it out of my mind.
Yeah between your choices, Bard or Ranger would be my thought. Bard for a versatile full caster, Ranger for a versatile half-caster. Both can be decent with skills, both can provide some healing if need be, both can do damage or support if need be.
I DO think a Bard who acts like Captain Holt is a pretty funny inversion of the usual bard that you see.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
