Me and my brother are trying to join a Curse of Strahd game that uses the Forgotten Realms lore. We had been trying to get into this campaign for a long time, thus I created a coulple characters in advance. But when I created them, I assumed this would be rather homebrew free, but if we're accepted, that won't be the case, and I worked hard on these characters, and I hate work that goes to waste. So, they'll have to be modified to fit Forgotten Realms lore, and sadly I'm actually not very familiar with it. Hence why I'm doing this.
I've got a rogue based heavily on Catwoman, who comes from a city filled with crime and corruption on all levels. Is there a city in Forgotten Realms that fits that? I've also got a Wizard from a Kingdom based on Kaedwen, from the Witcher series. It has a cold climate, filled with forests, and medieval morons who follow the loudest voice like sheep to the slaughter. Is there any nation in Forgotten Realms that fits that?
Baldur's Gate for the first one, no question. It's basically the Gotham of D&D. To my knowledge the only nation-scale location that fits the climate of your second one is the Savage Frontier, aka the North, aka the place almost all of the 5e adventures happen (Curse of Strahd being an exception). Not sure I'd characterize it as medieval, exactly, and in current lore it isn't nearly as... Racially intolerant as most of the places in The Witcher, but it could work. One of the defining features of the Frontier is that nobody's actually in charge. People tend to respect accomplishments and strength. It's not that there's no king... More like there are about a dozen, and the title doesn't mean as much as you think.
