Not sure where to post this, so i'll try my luck here.
So basically, i'm currenty playing in a homebrew setting and my paladin just summoned his mount for the first time. since i'm a very fickle person and like more exotic things, the gm and I settled on a draconic creature sub-type. Apparently my god also has one as a hunting pet, so it fits very well into the thematic. So, after thinking about it for a while, I decided that my paladin came across this creature while he, in an random act of kindness, was helping a wounded mother protect her hatchling from a group of abominations trying to kill it. I figured one of the hatchlings pack member would decide to follow my paladin after proving his worth to it, but ... i don't know how.
Does any of you have an idea how my paladin, or really any class with an animal companion would go about bonding with it? Are there any special rituals you can come up with? Or is there a test of strength? Or maybe cunning? Do they need the blessing of a spirit or god? I can't come up with anything precise, so maybe one of you could help me with that.
Depends; what kind of Paladin are you? If you're all about hunting, then you should hunt something together and then feast on it together or something like that. If you're a Blackguard that's all about terrorizing people or backstabbing your friends or something, then maybe you should eat your new mount's heart. If you're all about nature and balance or something, maybe transplant one of your organs into the beast and have one of their organs transplanted into you (and then healed up with magics, of course).
It *really* should be dependent upon what kind of person you are. It sounds like you're a Paladin of a God, and your God likes hunting, so the first option is probably the best for you. The latter two were just things I threw out there, but are *probably* a bit darker than you want.

Nah, he's a sun god (and according to the main religion the only god there is) and he's waging an eternal war against the forces of evil in his plane of existence, so the hunting pet is more of an companion in the battle against darkness, rather than focused on hunting itself. The basic religion also more or less says that if you die, you join the god on his battlefield and whatever you did in your mortal life you will then use to aid him in his battle against the forces of darkness.
My paladin is part of an alternate interpretation of the god though that focuses more on the image as a protector of the god, instead of the focus on his warrior nature like the main religion does.

Thanks for your time in advance.
