Mom looking for help preparing a Winter Solstice Saga for my 13 & 10 year old. In the past I played quite a bit of pc RPGs like Arcanum, Baulders Gate, Diablo, NeverWinter, WarCraft. It's been awhile but my kids are wanting to get into D&D. So I busted out the sewing machine and have started winter cloaks for the Solstice. My 13yr old really wants a dice roller so I decided I am going to build one. My 10yr old asked for a book of magic so I am trying to decided how I'm going to make lvl 1 magic scrolls. I'm really here looking for advice on a story line. How to build my own Saga. What are the key rules I need to follow for an epic adventure?
Should I be posting this in the Dungeon Master section?
Tacking on to what Davyd said, Lost Mine of Phandelver and Frozen Sick are free here so you wouldn't have to spend money to get a pre-written adventure. And if you're getting winter stuff in, then perhaps Frozen Sick could be a little winter-themed campaign for you.
That said, if you're dead-set on writing your own then the Let's Design an Adventure series of articles has some good advice.

You're probably best off running a pre-written adventure if you're new to D&D
Find my D&D Beyond articles here

This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.

I would head over to DMs Guild (website that sells player created content and old dnd stuff).
Look up content for "Midwinter"
I've found fun modules to run as one shots for the holidays. Midwinter is like the D&D Christmas if that's what you're looking for.
