Is there a way to grant a spell to a character that is not normally in the class?
I have a player druid who really wants a familiar and has done all the right things, so I intend to gift them the spell 'Find Familiar' but wants to remain a druid.
There is a very brief section on creating new spells in the DMG. So you could allow the druid to research and create a druid version of Find Familiar. I don't think it would be game breaking.

Worst case you could home brew an item that casts the spell so the description shows up in his sheet
Homebrew a feat that gives the spell.
The Ritual Caster feat will do that now, just let them have that feat with Find Familiar.

Easiest way I've done it is just hombrew a copy of the spell and open it up to their class spell list.
