I wanna make my own Items, to reward my Players, but the customization options are limited in my eyes, or maybe I'm to stupid to do it right.
Like I wanted to make a Magical Short Sword, that uses 1d8+Cha Modifier instead of 1d6+Dex Modifier, but the game forces me to take the base stats from a already exisiting weapon and doesn't take my Modifiern for the To Hit, only for Damage and stuff.
Sorry if what I wrote is confusing, in the clear I want someone that is knowledged about making custome Items to help me figure out if what I want to do is possible!
Homebrew of mundane items (armour, weapons etc) is not yet available.
As you saw, magic weapons always need a base weapon to add to and start with the properties of that weapon. This is how the designers of D&D create magical items, so has been the approach taken by D&D Beyond.
I expect there will be significantly greater flexibility and options in future iterations of the homebrew tools.
What you want to do is completely possible in tabletop play. It is the D&D Beyond interface that is limiting it. In tabletop you are free to "break" the rules any way you want.
So I was bored and brewed this up, it’s far from ideal, but it works, assuming STR is your dump stat w/ a -1 modifier. It also messes with all your other weapon attacks in some way or another, not great for dual wielding. In the end you’d probably end up better off giving a rapier +X the light property, where X is the difference between DEX & CHA mods (and then updating it everytime DEX or CHA change) But it was good way to play around in the builder.
