Hello fellow DM, PC I have recently started DMing for close friends of mine. Unfortunately, our schedules is full of unpredictable traps, and getting together is at best a DC 25 in planning. I am now looking at a way to play with my buddies from time to time online. I bought a shit tons of books from DNDBeyond and start thinking that this may have been a big mistake as I cannot link the content in Roll20. From now on what are my solutions. I looked at lot for solutions on google, but i feel the need of inputs from the community. How do you play games online, what other platform should I look into and do you have any video showing how people play online. I know there are a lot of references but what are the best ones per your standards.
I play a VTT using Fantasy Grounds. Unfortunately you have to pay for all and everything individually. E.g. Hardcover, DnDBeyond eBook, VTT rulesystem core book, etc.
My group uses tabletop simulator on steam, has minis and dice and allows us to view our sheets on another screen or mobile device. It has some grid features etc that could be learned in a jiffy.
We run Theatre of the Mind, with a campaign/character sheets on DDB, https://rolz.org/ for dice rolling/text chat and TeamSpeak for voice.
Works tolerably well. My main issues are:
* Lots of browser tabs on the go
* No easy way to share maps and pictures
* Lack of a good way to keep an adventure journal.
We are also using a private Facebook group to cover the latter couple of points as well as session planning (attendance). But I can’t recommend this at all.

My group just transfers the maps to roll20 and does everything else on DDB.
