If you used the meta magic transmute on something like burning hands that has a secondary effect (sets fire to flamable stuff that's not held or worn) would the secondary effect change too?
Eg if changed to ice damage would it freeze liquids in the cone or if you did thunder damage would it maybe push light items in the cone?
Would be interesting to see what everyone thinks on this
The important thing is that other than damage type, there should be no mechanical change.
"Pushing" is a mechanical change, but a spell that causes burning could easily have a "creeping frost" effect to replace it. Transmute metamagic should not noticeable change the power level of a spell.

As long as the damage is caused by the spell, and is of the types listed, then yes.
