In my group of friends we usually play non-D&D systems as my only friend who wants to DM D&D flakes out right before or after the first session. But recently one of my more reliable friends has decided he wants to DM D&D as he's been watching some D&D lets plays. But due to our prior experience with D&D, we're all a bit novice.
So I have a character Idea but I'm not sure how to best implement it into D&D and was hoping some of you could lend me your D&D wisdom.
The character idea is "if The Joker was a good guy". The character likes to play tricks on friends and enemies, but the jokes he plays have a beneficial effect on friends and a detrimental effect on enemies. My question is what spells do you think would be best for some practical jokes, and how would you use them?

Thank you.
I think most cantrips have the capacity to be pranks. Particularly minor illusion, prestidigitation, thaumaturgy, control flames, mold earth, etc. For leveled spells stuff in the illusion and enchantment schools will probably be your go to.
