I don't play D & D but I am a modeler and would like to start painting D & D figurines. I went on Ebay and saw some lots for very cheap like $7 shipped for 6 figurines.
I like monsters and creatures the most. Is there anything I should be careful of when buying D & D figurines? I would like the scale to match.
I have found that some of the best-detailed minis are on https://www.etsy.com/ and search for Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures. These tend to be 3D resin printed and not created through injection molding. Otherwise, I buy from https://wizkids.com/ because of the level of detail. The detail is what is important to me in a mini. The scale is 1:60 for D&D minis, this should allow you to see if other gaming minis could be adapted to D&D.
Hope this helps.

THAC0 means "To-Hit Armor Class 0", and depending on who you ask, it was either pronounced "thack-oh" or "thay-ko". When a -5 was amazing and an insult was asking, "What alignment are you again?"
30mm is usually the case. I would say anything between 25mm to 35mm would work.

There is also currently a reaper bones kickstarter going if you want to get a lot of minis for a good per mini price. Reaper also has a good line of individual minis you can get as well.
They use the money to help them make the molds. When the molds are done they send you the minis in bulk. Molds cost out a lot. They have a predicted ship date for them in the purchasing descriptions. That company has gotten better about the detail on their minis but for some reason, I haven't been able to lock down I don't care for them.

Kickstarter is sort of like crowdfunding. They have an idea for something they want to make or sell but can't afford to produce it on their own. People "back" the project and contribute money so they can make the project happen. Once done they deliver the product to you, usually it's about a 9-15 month turn around time depending on what the project is.
Reaper has done several very successful Kickstarters of their minis and they are very popular. I will say they are a little less rigid and more bendy than some other minis but I have not found this to be an issue.
Another option if you're looking to get a good number of mins for a decent price you can look at the D&D Adventure system games (I think there are 6 of them out now). Each comes with around 40 minis and it's a fairly fun board game too. I think they are still going for around 40 bucks and you can sometimes find sales on them.

Any online retailers would be great.
Thanks for your time and happy gaming

Is 28mm 1/60 scale?
I found some interesting figurines on Etsy but they write 28mm.

How in the world is that possible that they send you all these minis for only $120?
Do you know if shipping is added? I assume so.
I have no clue what kickstarter is but apparently it's to promote new companies, right?
Thxs again

Shipping is usually extra but varies by campaign.

Very good info. I was going to pull the trigger on the $120 but then when you wrote up to 15 months, I changed my mind.
I ordered 2 minis on Ebay to get me started.

The Arena of the Planeswalkers board games by WotC also come with a good number of minis as well and they are really cheap ;)
