I'm playing Salisar a ranger half-elf whose jumped 400 years forwad in time and has no idea how this happend. he just woke up 8 years ago in the middle of the forest with intense pain on his back. he later on realises that this pain is due to a tattoo on his back (that will have some sort of power that my DM think about).
my DM told me it's going to be aquatic related... so i wanted your opinions on what you think it should be.
Standard aquatic could be waterbreathing, or swimspeed. Alternately there's the shape water cantrip, or an aquatic animal limited speak with animals. Or if the gm is a jerk and it's a costal/on a ship campaign something like a geas that penalizes you for x time away from open water.
A nautilus shell, a seahorse, a breaking wave, a horseshoe crab, a starfish, a sand dollar, a shark or dolphin, a mermaid...so many possibilities.

google Cthulhu, he's canon in DnD lore.
Ships, anchors, sea creatures (look for old hand drawn maps, they had a bunch of interesting things in the oceans) or look up navy tattoos.
