So, this just happened. Last session my character died and was revived. Unfortunately I was just informed by my DM, that she suffers from a bit of post-death madness and is slowly starting to imitate a person from her life. At first I was wondering whom to pick for her character shift, but then I remembered that on a whim, and as a small nod to CR, I made my character a closet romantic who has a fable for the most corny of romance novels. With that in mind, I made my decision: she's gonna be based on the protagonist from her favorite series. There's only one catch... I don't do corny. I have little to no experience when it comes to corny romances, so I need your help to make the most corny romance lead in existence. What would be the key behaviors traits and mannerisms of such a character? Or do you have an idea what character I could base her off? As always, thanks for your help in advance. I really appreciate you guys.
I don't read or watch romance stuff either, but from what I've heard about some of the most popular romance series from various times in my life: the female lead is socially awkward, been in few if any relationships, has no skills, no personality traits, not particularly attractive, and doesn't have the slightest knowledge pertaining to anything they are getting into by being in a relationship with the male lead or leads (who finds them special for no particular reason).
Or at least that seems to apply to every romance that is not also a comedy. In those the female leads have a variety of endearing personalities, sometimes struggling but otherwise independent and capable, little relationship experience (one of the few overlaps with "serious" romances), either clumsy or careless in a way that leads to unintentional physical contact or sharing of secrets with the male lead, looks vary but are never plain, and since the series isn't taking itself seriously there is nothing about the male lead to not know about.
(Ah, it is fun to make fun of twilight and 50 shades. I've never seen more than glances or clips of those, but they seem just awful.)
I think if you go over the top, over dramatic, over acting you'll probably be on the right track. Go find some YouTube clips of epic soap opera/telenovela scenes. Be that ham you always wanted to be!
Might as well go to source for inspiration: Jane Austen novels and fairy tales. There are graphic novel versions of several of JA's books now, so shouldn't take you more than 2 hours of reading to get through it.
