so i messed up and assumed i could buy the maps we need and share them with my DM...but apparently i cant. though i did see in the FAQS that you can gift something after purchase...but i cannot find where...
After you've added a book to your cart, go to your cart and it will ask you to select whether it's for you or a gift for someone else:
Down the bottom you can see the choice. Obviously no help this time but maybe it will help in the future.
Contact customer support, it's possible that they might be able to do something.

none of this would have happened if it was more clear about sharing with your campaign....i tried to do cool and pay for the maps instead of sticking my DM with the cost and here we are...
Actually you're doing your pre-purchase research after the purchase was made, likely because you didn't get what you were expecting and assumed there would be an easy fix.

as the daughter of a computer programmer for the last 40 years..yeah...i was expecting an easy fix. Because this would have all been solved if they had taken the phrase " share all content" and added " except maps"....but thanks for trying to make me out to be stupid. have the day you deserve.
You should try writing to customer support, explaining your mistake, and seeing if they can fix it for you. Worst thing that happens, they tell you they cannot, and then you are in the same boat you already are in. Worth the 2 minutes to send them an email, since you would not be risking anything other than that minuscule amount of your time.

I'd second that, since they certainly CAN make the required change. It's a matter of if they feel your case warrants the effort they need to put in to shift the access. Certainly worth asking. Customer service is a big part of why people want to do business with certain entities, so if they feel your error is justified, they may well make it happen.

To be fair the whole point of content sharks to share purchased content within a campaign. I’d doesn’t say anywhere that it only applies to player options if a player owns monsters and maps and content sharing is on I would expect it to apply towards sharing my owned DM facing content with my DM too.

I do not disagree, but it doesn't take much research on this site to learn that what seems like a logical and straight forward line of thought is the exception not the rule, there are many broken parts of this site that haven't been addressed since the site went live in 2017.
Maps is a special early access tool available only to master tier subscribers that is still in ALPHA, what about the current product doesn't scream expect issues?
We have a recent thread where a user is asking about the cost of claimable ("free") products and doing their due diligence, here we have a user making assumptions making a purchase and then doing research when the purchase didn't work out the way they expected. A quick post before clicking buy would have yielded all of the information they needed to get the OP exactly what they wanted, instead they waited until there was literally nothing to be done short of an exception being made by people that do not read these forums.
This website is a hot mess in many aspects, and the owners have made it abundantly clear they will focus on what they want and we will get what we get, as such buyers need to do their homework before finalizing there purchases. Many users here are more than happy to help, but at this point there is simply nothing to be done.
It is threads like this that help many more people than just the ones that post in them.
The OP seems to have taken offence to my pointing out the root cause of their issue, it was and is simply an observation and my post is more to help others from making similar choices and having similar disappointing outcomes.
The admin/mods do a good job here, but we have been told time and time again the people that set the rules and policies do not and are very unlikely to ever look at these forums for feedback.
Does it suck yes, is anything likely to change doubtful.

What many people don't seem to realize is that Maps lets you upload any image you want. What you're paying for when you buy a Maps-enabled adventure book is (among other benefits) the convenience of not needing to go find and upload all the individual encounter maps/locations yourself. But that's nevertheless an option - if your DM doesn't own the adventures themselves, they can simply find the map images online somewhere (I recommend Reddit or Pinterest), save them to a folder, and pull them into the game manually as needed - just like they would if they were using e.g. Owlbear Rodeo.
People shouldn't have to "do their homework". The deal should be clear and obvious. Unfortunately, DDB is having another funny five minutes and is refusing me to check the wording, so I can't check either way at this point, but no one should have to resort to the forums for finding basic information about a purchase. It should be obvious at the point of sale.
Given the sheer number of people who must by buying things here each and every day, I'm glad they don't all flood the forums looking for information. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to help people, but if it's a choice between the guys getting paid to make the sale and the guys who aren't being paid having to do the work to help people trying to buy something, then I know who I think should be doing the work. If they're having to come to the forums to ask how things work, then something's not worked properly.

You cannot gift after a purchase, you have to select that a purchase is a gift before you complete the purchase by selecting the option in your cart

No need to take it out on me, Maps is new and in ALPHA it has all kinds of nonstandard and special quirks because of that.

Couldn't you just save the maps, send them to your DM, and have them upload the maps?
