Looking for ideas and solutions for DMing on the go. Currently I am homeless (got a job though so it shouldn't be too long. Maybe a couple more months.) During my free time I spend it at the mall and started DMing again about 2 months ago. I've got quite the interest and tomorrow I will be running my first session of Curse of Strahd with the Death House for 9 players. They helped out a lot and want to get me stuff so I can run things better. I currently I just use my D&D Beyond account on my phone, and I have about 30 sets of dice for everyone. They all text me a lot telling me they can't wait for next week and I love them all for that but with limited bag space what can I get to really wow them? A few things of interest I had in mind was the following...
Melee Mats game board 23x27 hard battle mat.
Dm screen and I can make reference tables for their side of the screen (about 6 of the players are still learning the dice and what does what)
They sell mini disply boards (those trifold cardboard things you use for science fair projects). Those could make a good DM Screen. Other than that, I'd just recommend a cheap wet erase grid map that you can roll up and keep tight with rubber bands. Basic Crayola washable markers work well on them too, which are cheaper, come in more colors, and can be used for other things.
