I've purchased all of the sourcebooks as hardbacks over the years, but now I'm looking at dndbeyond for the character generator. Is there a way to upload the hardbacks into dndbeyond, or do I have to repurchase the digital ones through the marketplace? I really don't want to buy all of the books again if I don't have to. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
You can add everything to the character tool by use of homebrewing, other then that you need to purchase the books here. This is due to this being a separate company from WotC and DDB is an electronic distributor like your local gaming store is for the physical books but is not owned by WotC itself.
D&D Beyond is a digital tool that licenses the content published by Wizards of the Coast, but it is not a part of Wizards of the Coast. Purchases made from your preferred local or online retailer do not unlock any digital content on D&D Beyond.
There are lots of options available to you, however!
You can purchase the full book on D&D Beyond, which will unlock all of the content on D&D Beyond's tools. There's a current discount code of BOOKTHANKS which will take $5.00 off of one book purchase!
You can piecemeal purchase only the content you want right now. For example, if you'd like to add the Arcane Trickster subclass, you can purchase it on its own. Doing that will reduce the price of completing the book by how much you pay.
You can use our built-in homebrew tools and your physical books in order to enter in any content you own in physical form to use in our digital tools! This will allow you to use all the content you wish to use on your characters, without requiring a purchase from D&D Beyond.
Thank you for your quick response. This helps a lot. I'll start putting in the desired content with the home-brew tool. Again, I appreciate your reply.
