You'd either need to be a Kensei, take a feat, or dip into another class to get the proficiencies, but it's doable.
Best weapons for Open Hand?
It's in the name.
No, I'm joking. Standard loadout of quarterstaff for up close, shortbow for far away, unless you're using the variant Dedicated Weapon feature from Tasha's. If you are, then it depends entirely on what weapon proficiencies you have. Whip is your only reach option, hand crossbow interacts favorably with Crossbow Expert, and longsword probably has the largest number of default magic weapons (it's competing with shortsword but you can already use those). Dwarves get axes and hammers, elves get longbows, those are upgrades so you might as well use them if you have them.
You could try using the Dedicated Weapon feature from Tasha's on your preferred firearm. Then, you'd be able to use it as a monk weapon. Of course, you'd miss out on a few benefits here and there, for instance, Flurry of Blows would be useless to you at range, but it could work.

My DM started me at Level 6, and I'm especially fast.
