I'm a new DM, already taking a group of six through the Lost Mine of Phandelver.
I would like to have another adventure--for a smaller group--that I could take them through "parallel" to this LMOP adventure.
The idea is that when both of these adventures are complete--or even sometime during--characters may end up somehow going from one to the other. So it would be nice if they were in Forgotten Realms.
I'm reading things that suggest that Dragon of Icespire Peak may not be ideal for that, but it still seems a very strong option to me (because I can adjust things as I need to, and they're capable of playing multiple characters if we need them to, so that we have a party of four or five). But the idea of trying Hoard of the Dragon Queen and leading into Rise of Tiamat seems like fun...but I hear that Storm King's Thunder is pretty great too.
I'm still researching. What direction would any of you give me? Thank you!
It seems you've heard the common suggestions of the alternative starter set and other modules, so I'd like to suggest a few others that might be an interesting stretch: Tales from the Yawning Portal: Sunless Citadel, Forge of Fury, or the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan can be fun to bring into your game. However, I'd strongly suggest putting your own spin on the narrative of these dungeons as modules can be very impersonal. At this level, your party probably has some sense of character background, so changing some of the dungeons contents to make is almost a must.
Past that, there's a pretty fun module that often gets recommended: Against the Cult of the Reptile God - It is an older module, so you could change it around to fit your needs and use the city & dungeons to your liking. For a story about uncovering a cult within a city, this module helps set you up rather well.
I'd recommend not using the Hoard of the Dragon Queen. This is just a personal opinion, but I think this is probably the weakest module of them all, as it feels very linear compared to the others.
I have been listening to Matthew Colvin on Youtube and he often talks about Reptile God. I think if I were more experienced as a DM, I would take that on.
i purchased Tales from the Yawning Portal and I’m taking them through Sunless Citadel. I figured for my experience level—that would be easier for me to handle, and from what I read so far, will give them enough to work with to really enjoy something fun. Thanks for the input!

Have fun!
I like the Complete-Adventures-of-MT-Black-Vol-I a lot.
Each adventure is about one session to play, great fun, and there is even a little trilogy in there.
