I have just seen a link at the bottom of the homepage that says "do not sell my data". The link takes you to a fandom page, that gives California residents information about opting out of having their data sold.
It specifically says on the referenced page that, such an option is given only to Californian residents, and so my question is this: is dndbeyond; or fandom, selling our data to third parties, and how do people from Europe (UK) opt-out of this?
Can anybody link me to the specific parts of the privacy policies for dndbeyond and fandom, that specifically refer to the acquisition, use and sale of personal data?
Thanks

In the UK, you're covered by GDPR (there was a big banner about this a while back) which gives you the ability to control how your data is used.
The terms of service can be found immediately below the 'Do not set my info' link. If you Ctrl+F 'Data', you get
Note that as set forth in our Privacy Policy, in the case of residents in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), we do rely on consent as the legal basis for processing personal data collected through Advertising or Targeting Related Cookies (as described in our Privacy Policy) and in that case (only), we require explicit, opt-in consent. Your agreement to this Terms of Use does not equate to a consent to the processing of such personal data collected through Marketing Cookies – that is a separate consent that EEA residents must give as described in our Privacy Policy.

Thanks. I do remember the banner you talk about now that you have mentioned it. I maybe should read the privacy policy and terms of service again, to refresh myself, as it seems that I forgot about this.
Maybe a reminder banner every few months, to reconfirm consent and refresh people's memory would be a good idea.
Could be accomplished by setting a timed cookie, to expire say, every six months.
Although implementing that would be extra work for the development team, so I'd understand if they choose not to.

I only recently started a subscription. But, never have I ever seen a single ad on the site. Looks the same now as it always has. And, I don't run any sort of ad blocker software.
Do you have any screenshots of where these ads can be found? I can look under my wife's account for them. lol
A new law in California requires that we give users the explicit right to opt-out of the use (aka "sale") of any personal information - that is why we have added that link to our sites. For European users, you have to opt-in to allow the use of personal information by us. To effectuate this, we display a banner to European users when you use our site asking to "accept" or "not accept" tracking. For all other users (in addition to users that don't opt out in CA and users that do opt-in in Europe), we explain all uses of personal data in our privacy policy as well as describe the personal information we collect. You can access our Privacy Policy from the bottom of every page, and here's a direct link.
We wish this was a bit more straightforward but this is what happens when different jurisdictions enact different requirements for the use of data.

do you have a subscription? Either tier removes ads.
