l am makeing a bard and am looking at the cantrip "dancing lights" one of the uses for the spell is to make a humanoid light. When in a humanoid form could l make it do stuff like walk or dance. (l want it to be my bards backup dancer)
Well on bonus actions it can move directions, so I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to manipulate the lights to move, at least in simple movements.
All turns take place at about the same time, as a round of everyone's turns is 6 seconds, so moving it every turn as your bonus action would still let people see it move fluidly.
ok. thanks for the input. what are the rules for turns out of combat? if i am "barding" ie singing/dancing would that be my action? also on a different topic: do draconic bloodline sorcerers get a breath attack? if so,does it stack with a dragonborns breath attack? (for example: making a electrified acid breath?) (i am new to dnd. sorry if these questions are "dumb")
It mostly depends on the DM. I personally make singing/dancing cost the action, but the dancing lights is a bonus action to move around. If you cast it before the show that would work, or if the DM even lets you use cantrips as a bonus action during the performance.
I also actually play a Dragonborn sorcerer, and sadly they only get their normal breath attack. Breath attacks and draconic sorcerer abilities are kept very separate. Dragonborn get their breath attack, and sorcerers get spells and some abilities, and those abilities are activated by spells, not the breath attack.
As a bard, you could use song and dance as the components for casting dancing lights. There is not really any rules for actions outside of combat, so you can just animate the lights at will.
Deaconic sorcerers don't get a breath attack, but they get the dragon's breath spell. No, it does not combine with dragonborn breath weapons. (A DM may allow it for cool factor, but that is not a universal rule.)
I know my brother's bard used it to that effect until our DM homebrewed and instrument that summoned illusory back-up dancers that gave him advantage on performance checks.
Do any of you know if the humanoid from dancing lights can talk. I know he can follow simple commands, so can you for example send him inside a room and let him tell you what there was inside as a form of recon or in what other ways can I use the dancing lights cantrip for recon?

Pretty sure that's beyond the scope of the spell. It makes lights that can form a vague humanoid shape, probably meant to evoke something reminiscent of a will'o'the'wisp. It doesn't actually make anything with consciousness, just a light that you can animate.

Here, have some homebrew classes! Subclasses to? Why not races. Feats, feats as well. I have a lot of magic items. Lastly I got monsters, fun, fun times.
