1.) Never DM before, but used to play consistently, and recommendations for a 1st timer, I have the whole "stater" kit essentially will be playing with inexperienced never played before group, like had to walk them through building characters,
2.) A majority of us live together already, but a few don't, and due to the virus situation understandably dont want to make the trip, but would be down for doing like a virtual thing any recommendations? Im probably going to do discord as the streaming service, free with no time cap, and considering using google docs/excel as visual for maps and tracking movement and ect.
As long as the group isn't too big, you can use Roll20 without needing to pay. You can also use Tabletop Simulator. Both of those require more preparation and experience to get good.
If you want to keep the mapping simple, Google Presentations is a slightly better option than Google Sheets if you already have a map image, while Sheets is a better option if you don't have a map image.
