Undead, fiends, monsters, and certain fantasy races are easy foes to write because often there's no guilt in killing something that isn't human. But there are 2 fantasy series I know that do what few others dare to do, portray the enemy as humans, both biologically and mentally. The Nilfgaard Empire of The Witcher and the Broddering Empire of The Inheritance Cycle both are presented as having humans in their armies, who fight for powerful men who lust for power. I've been in a number of adventures with typical monsters as the villains, but I've been thinking about having a campaign with human enemies. They can still use magic and maybe have pet monsters, but bottom line, their not fiends, undead, you get the idea. But so far I've had no luck in finding campaigns where you must deal with enemies who are mostly human, and have a human big bad, and I want my first outing as a DM to be a different experiance. So if anyone knows ant pre-written campaigns that fit the bill, I'd love to hear it. If not... well can't win them all.
