I am in the process of making a new long term character that will be starting at level one and playing through an entire campaign to level 20. I am struggling to pin down a class for this character and would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on what you would make him, based upon my thoughts regarding who his character is.
I have already decided that my character is going to be a young Elf from Evermeet named Aerith Theyarus. Aerith is rare amongst the Elves of Evermeet in that he is androgynous, although, through his Reverie, he has learned that his spirit is male, even if his body is not and so he identifies as that gender. I say this because, through the eyes of the other races, and especially Humans, Aerith looks quite feminine and could easily be mistaken for a female Elf; something which annoys him sometimes, but which he has also learned to use to his advantage. After all - who could resist a beautiful female Elf and Aerith has learned to wield those charms like a master fisher, distracting the fish with a sweet-tasting bait. A bait that is so lovely and irresistible that no fish; or man, could resist. At least until they bite down upon it, but by then it is far too late, as they are well and truly hooked on Aerith's charms.
He is not above charming women in this way, either. He is, after all, a beautiful Elf, female or otherwise, that is well versed in charms and illusion.
Even the name, Aerith and the entire identity of Aerith Theyarus is a carefully crafted lie, although this lie servers a higher purpose, and as it was a name he was known by in a former life; for an Elf at least, it isn't exactly a lie. He is a runaway, using this false identity to hide from the others sent to "bring him home", as he does not want to go back there. Why he ran away from the paradise of Evermeet and why he doesn't want to go back is something that he keeps very close to his chest. Whatever the reason though, he is sad about it, sad enough that it sometimes disturbs his Reverie, making him short-tempered and very tired. However, for the most part, he hides his sadness well behind smiles and antics and a whole if childlike love of exploration and learning new things.
Aerith is extremely good at charms and illusions, and while in combat, they are his primary attack and defence. However, he is not unskilled with a bow either and can do significant damage to his enemies using his bow from a distance. Also, if he has enough time to set up traps, his illusions and charms, combined with the range attacks of his bow can be especially dangerous. In this regard, I imagine him as being sort of like Gowther from the seven deadly sins. Indeed, there is a chance that an enemy could resist his charms and see through his illusions, but the odds of that happening are heavily stacked in Aerith's favour.
I am taking quite a lot of inspiration from Gowther from the seven deadly sins, and the Fey from 5e forgotten realms for Aerith's ability to use charms and illusion and a bow to dangerous effect.
The last few things that I thought for this character is that Aerith would be a prolific writer. He writes everything down a despite not being very good at drawing, loves to draw accompanying pictures to illustrate the text in his journals. Lastly, Aerith carries an ancient-looking clockwork toy with him everywhere he goes, he brought it with him when he ran away from Evermeet, and often spends time maintaining or playing with it while the others are asleep. This toy is more than a beloved toy to Aerith; it is his greatest treasure, his "precious" if you will and the one thing that he values above all else. The toy is filled with an ancient, though mundane Elven magic that seems to make it come to life whenever Aerith plays or interacts with it. It is, however, nothing more than a toy and any illusions of life that it may seem to possess, is simply that — the illusion or dream of life and nothing more.
That's all the thoughts that I had regarding this character and so, with all this in mind, what class do you think he would be?

Bard Collage of Whispers
Definitely Bard. I'm voting college of Valor because of the whole Bow angle. For the magical secrets, take Swift Quiver.
