I know that this game is all about imagination and letting our inner child / warrior/ or paladin run as free as possible. Is thier anyone that can help me put something together so that my first time playing goes as smooth as possible? I have a friend who is an amateur fantasy writer, amateur or not he is amazing. I believe he will be amazing at being the leader of the party. that being said, I want to be a paladin but I am not sure how to say ok my dex is 10 my strength is 12 what rules that are even for the group can i assign so that all these may be minor hiccups are just smooth steps into starting the game when we play. Anyone have like a form to follow or anything for first-time players?
D&D beyond has a nice summation here. I am a bit unclear, is your fantasy writer friend the Dungeon Master, or a member of the party?; Typically D&D games consist of between 3-6 Players, one of which is the Dungeon Master, who is responsible for the NPCs, and world events. The rest players, react to and create their own events between themselves and the Dungeon Master. A two person campaign is possible, but a lot more difficult, as there are obviously less people to play off of.
Typically the Dungeon master will either decide for themselves or have a session 0 to discuss character themes for character creation, stat allocation, and Do's and Don'ts for the campaign. Once those are determined, you can create a character here (or by pen and paper).
