I am fully aware that you can share sourcebooks with other players by having a master subscription, but that is not my question.
If I am a DM and buy a book, I know my players can't see the sourcebooks, but can they still use their contents on the character builder? And if not, if I'm a DM and buy a book, can I edit my players' sheets with content from the book despite them not having it? If I do have the book I can use it to edit my own sheets with stuff from that book, but if I'm a DM, can I edit other people's sheets with the content from the book I own?

No, that's what content sharing with the Master tier subscription is for.

I believe you can. I can give my players' sheets portrait frames and backgrounds that I own but that they don't, for example, so I think DMs have full control over player sheets in their campaigns.

I see, so if you can give them the portrait frames and backgrounds you have then it's likely to be possible to edit their sheets with my content... Thanks for your input!
What you can do if you don't want to pay for a master tier subscription is have your players put the characters into a campaign, and then either:
Make homebrew copies of stuff that you've bought, as everyone's homebrew that is in 'My Collection' is automatically shared inside a campaign
Have them unclaim the character, you claim it and edit it, then unclaim it so they can claim it back. The changes will stay, but may not include further changes at increased levels (so, giving someone an item or a race this way is easier than giving someone a subclass or spells this way).

Claiming and unclaiming just to edit them seems a little complicated... I do hope I can edit their sheets with my content while they still have them claimed, I mean, I can edit their sheets however I want as a DM, so just here hoping I don't need them to unclaim if for editing with the content I bought, just so I can do it faster and it's more convenient... Homebrewing the contents would take more effort too...

I just tried disabling content sharing in the campaign I use so my friends can do whatever they want, and I was still able to add any and all of the content that I own to characters owned by other people, so my initial belief seems to be confirmed. No claiming/unclaiming required.

That's great! Thanks for trying it out, I couldn't myself as I have not purchased any books yet, I was thinking on doing it but wasn't sure if it would be worth it due to needing a subscription to share with my friends... Now I know it is worth it, and I will be buying a book. Thank you very much
