As a free player, should I have access to the eldritch knight and battle master subclasses since they’re both phb material? I only see champion as a subclass option.
The Player's Handbook is not free material, therefore you do not get access to it for free.
The Basic Rules and System Reference Document (SRD) are free, and therefore provided for free on the site. The only fighter subclass found in the Basic Rules/SRD is the Champion, thus that is the only free option
I was frustrated too with the limited selection available to a free user. I made an investment here and have been generally pleased with what yer buck buys.
For minimal investment, get the players handbook. Xanthars guide will add a mess of subclass options & spells. Volos guide gives a bunch of playable races. The latest theros book has satyr & Leonin and a couple subclass options. Buying the megabundle unlocks everything but it isn't cheap.
You can also get access to stuff friends have unlocked via the content sharing with campaigns. For some people this is the best option.
Free subscribers get a small # of characters they can create, but subscriptions are relatively cheap compared to the cost of the big bundle.
