So my question is really about the difference between magical resistance and magical damage resistance. I got into a debate with my dm about the bone devil. Who has magical resistance giving him advantage on saving throws or something like that. So does magical resistance also half my damage from my monks unarmed attacks since they have the magical properties to bypass resistances or not?
If the bone devil has resistance on damage from magical attacks, it would say so. It doesn't say so, so it doesn't have it. All Magic Resistance does is give advantage on saving throws against magic, not resistance to damage from magic.
That said, it's completely within the DM's power to change the abilities of the bone devil to include resistance to magical damage.
Edit: something I missed is that Ki-Empowered Strikes only makes your unarmed attacks magical "for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage." I'd say that, even if a monster had resistance to magical damage, Ki-Empowered Strikes doesn't make your unarmed attacks magical for that purpose.
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.

Provided your monk's attacks count as magical (i.e. level 6 or higher), the Bone Devil's resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing and slashing won't apply to them. Their separate "magic resistance" ability only applies to saving throws.

Traits Magic Resistance and Damage Resistance are two distinct unrelated game elements, one affect saving throws and the other damage.
Monk feature Ki-Empowered Strikes specifically overcome a bone devil's Damage Resistances to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks that aren’t silvered.
Ki-Empowered Strikes: Starting at 6th level, your unarmed strikes count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
