so i'm a level 11 wizard in a campaign and we are super close to level 12 and i wanna ask the DM this question, as well as a lot of others their opinion on this before i get to level 13 and get the spell. if say i give my barbarian the cat familiar that i have and tell him to hold onto it for the next 12 hours and he does, could i go elsewhere and spend the next 12 hours doing the spell to create a simulacrum of him? find familiar says i can use touch spells with it and simulacrum is a touch spell. this is less of a broken mechanic i wanna abuse and more of a funny prank that could benefit the party that i wanna pull and surprise them. i personally feel like this would work but im not 100% sure and dunno how ppl would view this.
I think it would work. I can imagine someone insisting the simulacrum is the real character while the actual character gets more and more upset. Wizard: "I don't know who this hothead is but, you and I go way back. Right buddy"? Wizard fist bumps with the simulacrum.
First you'll need to gather bits and pieces of your subject barbarian for components of the spell... And depending how picky the DM wants to be, you may be creating a naked barbarian since it doesn't duplicate equipment. But the biggest drawback to the shenanigans I imagine you would want to pull is that the simulacrum obeys your spoken commands, it doesn't have a mental connection to you. There's nothing saying the simulacrum is stupid, in fact it should have the subject barbarians stats, but that limits how well it can partake in your tricks and jokes to whatever the subjects intelligence is.
So all in all, I think it could be funny and if it was all just shenanigans and hijinks, as a DM I would give you a lot of leeway... But I would also find it easy to have others see through the deception if you actually were trying to pull off something too disruptive or such. *shrug*
