I will be a DM for a local convention, with online Adventurers League modules. I am asking for advice, since this is my first time doing this with Discord. (I have run AL modules at a few other Cons, but always in-person tables up to now. I've also done play-by-post, but that is a completely different experience.)
I am still new to Discord, but I have already found general advice about using the platform. With a home game with friends, there is time to iron out any problems. But this is a case where strangers are being organized at the last moment, and the game has a time constraint. I need to be prepared for any issues, so it doesn't waste time.
Off the top of my head, I'd like to know how best to handle these:
How should I get access to the player's character sheets? If they have a D&D Beyond (AL legal) character, then it can be shared on Discord with Avrae bot. But the player might not be using D&D Beyond. Is it easier to post a file on a Google Drive and put a link in the chat? Take a picture, and put that in the chat?
How to handle audio conversations? With strangers, I probably won't match voices and character names. Should they state their character name every time they start talking? Or make a note in the chat?
Any advice (for these two points, or anything I didn't think of) would be welcome. I can muddle through on my own, but I am hoping that suggestions here will improve the session.

Have them change their discord display name to match their character name. In discord you can see who is talking.
