I’m running my own campaign using my boyfriends home brew world. Our last session he nearly killed all of us with foolishness. And now he is asking for a rifle cus his world has guns. I didn’t want to allow it at first but then I had an idea. I will give him his gun but the name of the gun will be vicious mockery so every time he misses the gun is gonna insult him
Well, the DMG actually has firearm stats. Without getting into all the specifics, a Hunting Rifle does 2d10 piercing damage and has a range of 80/240, which is pretty solid damage... at least enough to justify giving the weapon a strong downside (aside from the rare/expensive ammo). Honestly, though, I'm not a huge fan of making a weapon that deals the full damage of Vicious Mockery on a miss, so I'd probably just say on a miss he takes 1 psychic damage, but on a critical fail he should take the full effects of the Vicious Mockery spell (d4 damage + disadvantage on his next attack).
