I found on the net the map on the right side which is a small png and looks a lot better.
I don't understand how the one of the right (came from [REDACTED] ) was scanned? in with such quality.
I mean I've bought other module maps from the original artist, which makes sense if they exist. I don't think someone hand drew the one the right as a copy.
So how else did they get it in? Did they have a super highest quality scanner at work or am I missing something.

Are you sure you had the settings configured the right way in your attempt? That image looks very grainy so I thought your scanner was not set on its highest setting.
I can't explain the quality of the other image. I don't think it was scanned. I would think it came from the original artwork.

yeah maybe it was because I didn't have the book flat enough, I'll try it again later. Incidentally this was the artist that did a bunch of WOTC maps, but not the Hoard of the Dragon Queen
When I clicked on the link to view the image, I was expecting the sort of distortion that comes from books not being flat. Maybe your scanner has software that corrects for that. Assuming that, I was thinking that the solution might be that you'd have to cut the pages out of your book and photocopy them. I doubt anyone wants to do that and ruin a book, but there is quite a lot of material on the web that I would have thought was copyrighted, so someone is doing it.

There isn't much of a point in scanning anything at 1200 dpi that isn't a high quality photograph(or extremely high quality computer generated digital image print) that you need to zoom in on. For the images you posted, your scan image is so high in res, you can see the print resolution and paper stock texture. Grainy. If you zoom in though, the quality doesn't degrade. For the right side, it looks fine until you zoom in, then it blurs quickly the (DPI seems low 125-150?). I would try scanning again and see if it looks decent and can be zoomed to a degree, try 300 dpi. Kind of a standard high quality setting.
The DMs map of Greenest(here on DDB) claims to be 4050x3000 and I believe it. You can zoom in on a single tiny building in it looks perfect.

Wizards of the Coast are usually able to provide the source images for maps to us at a very high resolution and we do our best to present that as the best possible images, both DM versions and player versions (without all of the labels etc).
There's actually quite a few considerations, considering the multiple image formats, DPI, color profiles, compression etc.
It makes me happy to see that this work is appreciated. 💗
With regards scanning - you're never going to achieve anything like the same level of quality unfortunately because, as mentioned by someone above, the printed page itself has texture and you'll also likely pick up content from the other side of the page too (even if only a small amount).
One another note - Mike Schley, Jared Blando, and all of the other artists who work on Wizards of the Coast sourcebooks are incredibly talented and deserve recognition for their work - if you want superb maps, I very much recommend heading to their websites.
Please however, do not link to sites that illegally share pirated content, which includes the maps and other images.

So I bought an Epson v600 scanner and scanned in at 1200 DPI. It created the map on the left side .
