I'm intrigued by the upcoming published adventure of Rime of the Frostmaiden, and I've liked reading over the 'encounters of the week' that have been going up on the main page of DDB. I was curious to if the miniseries will be packaged up upon the release of the adventure? If I did decide to run RotFM, is it recommended (or expected) to run through all of the 'encounter of the week' mini-series before commencing on what will be included in the book?
Encounters of the Week used to be a fun little series which created standalone encounters you could, with minimal modification, drop into your campaign if you were pressed for time or thought they would help. It was great and I liked it.
Encounter of the Week has turned into a crappy way to promote new books that is absolutely bloody useless to anyone who is not gearing up to play that book the moment it drops. It's maddening.
No, DDB will not package the EotW stuff they wrote for Rime of the Frostmaiden. You'll have to bookmark each individual encounter. The book was not written by Wizards with these encounters factored in; if it's like every other adventure Wizards writes, the book assumes a default level 1 start with absolutely no prior adventuring experience; playing the Encounters of the Week first would require you to kludge the start of the book to account for higher levels.
