Looking to see if anyone has any advice on whether it is possible to use Polymorph on the Druids Wildfire Spirit. The stat block lists it as an elemental, so by that logic it is possible. Then the question is what is its CR. Since its stats do sale with the player is its CR similar to the characters? maybe 1/2 the characters level? Or does it fall under the category of a familiar with a CR of 0? Appreciate the advice in advance. neither me nor my DM could find any discussion on the particular topic.
It explicitly doesn’t have a challenge rating (its statblock lists its CR as “n/a”). That could change once Tasha’s is published and the subclass becomes official, but for now it probably can’t be polymorphed at all.
There’s any argument to be made that it could be polymorphed into something else with a CR of “n/a,” but I personally would not rule this way. Comparison operators simply don’t have meaning on n/a. One n/a can’t be said to be equal to or less than another.
ok for now i will avoid it. hopefully there will some clarifications once it is officially released. i am sure my DM will not miss me polymorphing it into a giant ape. Thank you for the help

If your DM is cool with it being polymorphed then you can polymorph it. I would say just ask the DM because he could rule it as something you can do.
