For my campaign, I have a player that is playing as a Firbolg Druid, who has a Giant Frog as a companion. It was initially just for the humor of it (the player loves frogs and wanted it as a kind of gimick), but now it has turned into wanting to have it as a battle companion. I'm not opposed to it, but I am trying to decide how to scale the Hit Points of the Giant Frog companion as the Druid levels up. The Druid is currently at level 3 and the Giant Frog is at AC 13 (no armor currently, so that will increase when custom armor is made/purchased) and HP 18 (4d8). I would like to have the HP scale proportinately (but maybe not equal to?) the Druid. I am not sure how to do it though? Any thoughts?
1 Hit Die per level of the Druid. So once the Druid hits level 5, the Frog will have 5d8 HP. I would also just have the Frog use the Proficiency bonus of the druid for attacks and such.
Just a quick tidbit for reference there's Beast Master Ranger and Battlesmith Artificer:
Ranger companion: Add your proficiency bonus to the beast’s AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum equals the hit point number in its stat block or four times your ranger level, whichever is higher. Like any creature, it can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points.
Steel Defender: Hit Points equal the steel defender’s Constitution modifier + your Intelligence modifier + five times your level in this class

That is how I would handle it at any rate.
