Kinda wanting to make a character who's infected with a permanent and uncured disease, weak physically as a result. Their goal, to get a cure. Somehow they want to be cured and live a normal life again. Any ideas for anything about the character? First time trying this kinda story.
What class are you looking to play as? That makes a big difference. Also consider what background would fit with this backstory: most likely not an Entertainer, Soldier, Sailor or Outlander.
For classes I've been thinking a cleric, wizard, or warlock. (I mainly play casters) I kinda want it to be some odd disease unseen before. For the cleric or warlock , maybe their patron or god has never seen such a thing. They have no way to cure it. The first thing they would ask of the patron is a cure, but they're not getting it that easily. For the wizard maybe he made a mistake when experimenting with the weave and it lashed out him, leaving him marked with this new arcane affliction. Idk what backgrounds though
All of that really depends on the DM and what you work out with them. No matter what advice you get here, you DM may feel differently about it so you should just talk to them first.
My idea: warlock. The disease IS your patron and using your body as a host. Evil patron, good character. Either when your patron has gained enough strength it will expel itself from your body, or you can try to research a way to get it out yourself. Perhaps by seeking the favor of another patron?
edit: so basically you are using the diseases abilities, put your worst ability score in str to signify the weakness the disease is causing a you.

She/Her Player and Dungeon Master

Oooh I like that idea. Infected with a sentient parasite or disease that grants me power in order to spread and safely mature.
absolutely and leveling up will signify it gaining strength.
Hmmmm, but what subclass would work best?
Illithilich patron could work, could be infected with an Illithid Tadpole of sorts, The Great Old One or The Undead (UA)
I like it. I'm gonna start thinking of ways to reflavor spells and abilities and begin writing up the character
