Vampire, lycanthropes, liches maybe... I get that editing the character sheet is time consuming but surely D&D Beyond has a competent and well-paid group of coders at this point, right?
Templates are not part of 5e. So why would coders at DDB implement something that is not in the rules compared to other things that are and still need to be done ?
Besides, even if they did they would do it after they updated to add temporary effects such as RAGE

This is not entirely accurate; templates are indeed a part of this edition, they're an optional rule found attached to various creatures in the monster manual such as lycanthropes, vampires and half-dragons. They can be applied to player characters and other monsters, and although usually aren't intended for use under play control, the DM can allow such things.
Shadow Dragons are also a template that can be applied, as are Living Spells from Rising from the Last War. it would be nice if we had a means to quickly apply templates to statblocks so we didn't have to homebrew it by hand.

"The Epic Level Handbook wasn't that bad, guys.
Guys, pls."
What do you mean -_-
I think they're asking for the ability to apply templates to player characters.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Oh
Besides, even if they did they would do it after they updated to add temporary effects such as RAGE

Yeah, the wording has changed and template is more a loose term for a set of attributes that can be put on something else.

Glyster as Umbraxakar in Mad Mage is considered to be a large adult bronze dragon with the Shadow Dragon template, for instance.
