My character is a level 4 Gloomstalker Ranger/ level 3 Scout Rogue and I was wondering what a good level split would be speaking strictly for those 2 classes. Right now I'm thinking that I go for level 4 scout to get sharpshooter early on, and then just put all other levels into Gloomstalker for the super good stalker's flurry and shadowy dodge features. Would any other split work well or what?
My typical recommendation is to pick up Extra Attack as quickly as possible. While Dread Ambusher does give you an extra attack already, that's only for the first round of combat. Extra Attack gives you a boost that applies to every round and is going to be much more consistent than Sharpshooter.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Probably because doing that gets you Iron Mind from the Gloomstalker and Superior Mobility and Ambush Master from the Scout. Which at least on paper looks like a great synergy.

The Stiener has it. Get to multiattack, then uncanny dodge evasion. You could go 8/12 for the extra feat and lands stride, but I feel Ambush master and extra die of sneak attack is better.
For feats I'd go sharpshooter, crossbow expert (even of using a bow), piercer and alert. That's likely +17ish with advantage on initiative at 20th level.
Mobile and magic initiate (druid) (for thorn whip and guidence) maybe?

Good point, I didn't think of that.
My thoughts would be get to ranger 5, then Rogue 7. From there whatever you want so long as you end up at Ranger 7/Rogue 13.
What's the thought process behind this?

Makes a lot of sense, and with the 7d6 of sneak attack damage you get a lot out of the first turn of combat.
