So I'm joining a CoS campaign late, with the rest of the party having started at level 1, I'll be joining at level 4.
So, the character I've been wanting to play is an protector aasimar devotion paladin, that being my favourite class, though the party already has a paladin, so I'm not wanting to intrude upon the said player and steal the spotlight, being both a second paladin as well as being essentially half angel...
I guess otherwise I could play a cleric or a monster hunting ranger, but I'm only really comfortable playing melee, and I also really adore the feeling of serving a deity.
If I was to play a holy warrior, I'd either like to be a paladin of Selûne or of Lathander. Selûne because I know she is the goddess of good lycanthropes, and it might be fun to try and convert werewolves in the adventure.
Anyway, any advice on what I should play and do? And what reason should I have for being in Barovia where I meet the other players? How did I get there and what have I experienced since?
Since I know little about the setting except that it may have a strong focus on the Morninglord at some point, I'm finding it really difficult to make up a backstory for my character.

Anyway, thank you so much for reading!
I hope you have a nice day!
