Clerics (especially Light, Forge, and Arcana), Fighters (EK is excellent), Paladins (Vengeance seems the usual choice), Rogue (preferring Arcane Trickster), and Sorcerer. I often play a Wizard because nobody else will. I often play a Cleric if somebody else plays a Wizard because nobody else will. If nobody is excited about playing a Fighter, Barbarian, or Cleric then I'm usually a Paladin. I think the EK is better and more-fun to play compared to the Paladin. Fighter Eldritch Knight is the best class/subclass if you have other(s) in the party who can cover curing poison/disease, uncovering evil, turning undead, and thorough protection from offensive AoE-damaging spells/effects.
Looking forward to reading the final rules for the Path of the Zealot, Grave Domain, Circle of the Shepard, Cavalier, Samurai, Oaths of Conquest and Redemption, etc -- but I am most-excited to read the all-around new rules for the Sorcerer and Wizard including spell mechanics. I do not anticipate that any of the new subclasses for Fighter or Rogue will be better than EK or AT (*). I do anticipate that the Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard will be powered up by these new rules. I am not excited for the options that other players are going to jump to: Bards, Rangers, Path of the Storm Herald, Circle of Dreams, Arcane Archer, Way of the Drunken Master, Inquisitive, and Hexblade. I am hoping that the new Paladin subclasses provides equivalence to Vengeance (*).
My worst nightmare would be having to play a classic Wizard or Cleric in a party filled with a Monster Slayer, Arcane Archer, Drunken Master, and Hexblade. Like I might just play Path of the Storm Herald and mess with all of their plans until TPK is achieved -- followed by a high five to the DM.
(*) Update on Nov 4 2017: Had a chance to read how the subclasses played out in the published XGtE. Cavalier is my favorite. I think it is actually better than the Eldritch Knight, so this comes as a shock. Samurai is close, but not quite as good as Eldritch Knight. The Divine Soul is going to have people talking, as it just makes an already-powerful Sorcerer that much more-so. The War Wizard looks better than anything otherwise-imagined. The Paladin Oaths didn't end up too-bad even though Redemption was neutered (and looking to be rightfully-so). The Kensei is not all-that, sorry, Monk lovers.
So, which is my defining-best class/subclass of the game now? Divine Soul or Cavalier? Less than a week left to find out here on DDB.
So what's everyone's favorite class in DND.
Marvarax and Sora (Dragonborn) The retired fighter and WIP scholar - Glory
Brythel(Dwarf), The dwarf with a gun - survival at sea
Jaylin(Human), Paladin of Lathander's Ancient ways - The Seven Saints (Azura Claw)
Urselles(Goblin), Cleric of Eldath- The Wizard's challenge
Viclas Tyrin(Half Elf), Student of the Elven arts- Indrafatmoko's Defiance in Phlan
Warlock (More the Hexblade). After that I like Fighters, Barbarians, Sorcerers and the occasional Cleric.
I like all of them, especially fighters, rangers, sorcerers, wizards, and Knowledge and Tempest clerics.
