As written up presently, in combat "the drake can move and use its reaction on its own" (emphasis, mine). I see the infusion as something the drake's presence puts out there for use by the party (at the table determined by the ranger/drake player) and so isn't something requiring directing. So your Ranger only burns their bonus action if the Drake is called to do something other than move or provide that reaction. That's how I read it.

Can the drake warden's drake companion use its infuse strikes reaction on its own or does it have to be commanded to do so?
