The group I'm currently playing with over Discord is running Curse of Strahd, starting from level 1. We just got to the basement of Dead House, so we're now level 2.
I'm playing an artificer, while my allies are a fighter, rogue and barbarian. At this point, I realized that my Artificer Infusions feature doesn't come into play until AFTER completing a long rest, while the others get to use Action Surge, Cunning Action and Reckless Attack as soon as they want. I spent my spell slots to take down a couple of monsters faster, and as a half caster I don't get any new slots (pretty sure I also don't have any new spells prepared as that's another long rest dependent feature).
TLDR: We leveled up, but until we take a long rest my features are essentially dead.
Am I reading all this correctly, or did I overlook anything?

Correct. Same for wizards, who don't get to prepare the 2 spells gained from levellling up.
It is a somewhat common houserule that levelling up doesn't happen until a rest. In my games, I rule that the characters need a good rest in a safe place (not a dungeon!), during which they can reflect on their experiences and practice their new skills.

You could have a feat with an ability that resets with a short rest I guess, but as far as Artificer-specific abilities are concerned that's correct.
Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].

Oof, that's rough. Thanks for the quick feedback!
