Is there anyway on DND beyond to make a magic item that gives additional spell slots? or is there an override function for spell slots similar to ASI overrides? if so how?
It doesn't look like there is a way to give additional spell slots through a magic item. The best reference I've been able to find is the Pearl of Power. The way it's designed you can spend charges from the item to allow the user to re-up one of their used spell slots. The way it's setup in DDB is to have rules text explaining how the charges on the Pearl work, then having the player just click on the spell slot they've used to "restore" the slot, then expending a charge from the Pearl.
If you want to see how DDB set-up the Pearl, go to homebrew creations and use the top drop of magic items to search for "Pearl of Power" then click create. This will copy the item and let you see how it's setup to interact with things.
There's a Ring of Spell Storing and a couple of magic items that let you recharge spell slots as an action. But nothing that gives you additional spell slots that I'm aware of.
I was just given an "upgrade" to my Bladelock's pact weapon... Twice per day when I kill a creature with it, I regain a Warlock spell slot.
It's a homebrew weapon, and I just typed that into the description. Couldn't figure out a way to make it link to my spell slot, so I just have to remember it and do it myself.
im not talking about in game ... im talking about on DND beyond ... is there a way to code it onto the actual function so it shows up on the Digital play sheet (other than just in text)
Have you all tried having the item give you a custom feat that gives spell slots to see if that works? You could just remove the feat if the item becomes unattuned. I would think the reason this is a problem is that it requires changing the item and if so having a feat that gives the character the spell slots and is only obtainable as long as you are attuned to a specific item should fix that issue since it puts the spell slots on the character instead of the item.
You could do that. What I did was make my character lvl20 for extra spell slots then ignored all extra ability’s and spells that I wouldn’t have at lvl 12. (My character lvl)
There was a magic item in 1st addition called the Band of Wizardry and it gave you one extra 1st, 2nd and 3rd level spell slot. So you could also import that item in if you wanted to.

Yeah, I didn't have any luck making that action "clickable" in DND Beyond. Be nice to click a "regain spell slot" and have a slot open back up.
But... since I'd have to click that button anyway, I can just click Spells and unclick a used spell slot...
Your results may vary.

It’s no the best solution but it works. (Pretty much)
