Over a period a time I have worked on a subclass for monks. The idea behind the subclass is to allow them to have spell slots and access to multiple schools of magic. However, I have chosen every spell individually to disable access to harmful spells. Only spells used to aid and heal are available. 1.0 is now live in the homebrew section and I'd love to hear your thoughts! Comments on how to improve or adjust the subclass is very welcome.
1: In terms of the spells you learn, a sentinel is greatly related to vigilance and protection. Divination and abjuration spells would likely be the most appropriate. In addition, most monk subclasses cast spells using their ki points and only have access to a limited amount, Emplenting things this way can narrow down the abilities that are most appropriate rather then creating a mock paladin.
2: The subclass seems much more based on using weapons like the Kensei than spells.
3: For Accuracy of the Serpent, it doesn't cost an action to throw a weapon. Instead you can say that all of your monk weapons have a throwing range. Also, I would recommend adding info for what level each ability is learned.
4: Sentinel Magic is an extremely high ki point cost for a very useful bonus action. Instead I would recommend expending a number of ki points equal to the spells level + 1 to cast. This creates better options for low level spells.
5: Sentinel Weapon Mastery is useful, but bland.
In all, think more about the synchronizing of the abjuration with your attack rolls. Buffing allies' AC with ki, repelling unarmed strikes, counter spelling with deflect missiles, etc.
