I read a couple tutorials and as far as I can see there's no way to make, essentially, a shield with only +1 AC instead of +2 for a normal shield. Am I missing something?
This buckler would not be the strapped kind for dual wielders or sword and spell. It would be held, and the trade-off is you can don it as a free item interaction, like weapons, instead of having to use an action.
This way my ranger, when anticipating melee combat, can shoot an arrow and don the buckler in the same turn. Then I can still have +1 AC for the enemy attack and draw my rapier my following turn.

You would be able to make a Shield with the modifier Bonus -> Armor Class -> -1. That should do what you're looking for. :)
I'm pretty sure I tired that and it still showed as +2 in my equipment. Let me try again. First time using this.
Nevermind worked that time. Thanks!
