Pretty new DM here, done a few campaigns but no expert by any stretch.
Got a player wanting to play an Aasimar divination Wizard, specifically an Aasimar related to Selune. They're not really vibing with the protector/fallen/scourge Aasimar 3rd level abilities.
I'm thinking of a Selune/Savras/divination based 3rd level Aasimar ability similar to the protector or scourge Aasimar. Current idea is a once per long rest 10ft radius 1 minute long ability that grants any friendly characters a proficiency bonus to D20 rolls for the duration, and can choose one target to gain advantage on D20 rolls additionally.
For a wee bit of context, this moderately experienced player wants to play a "blind sage pacifist type" character. I've never had a blind character before, so my current interpretation is that they can see/visualise the world around them through their familiar. The character themselves, regardless of race, will have no sight or dark vision, just maybe 10ft blindsight. Maybe 10ft tremorsense as well? (Seeing through the familiar passively will just make the whole thing a lot easier for me on roll20 I feel and be less stifling for the player). Again wide open to any opinions on that.
Onto the divination/Sage part of it, we chose Selune as they seemed to be the most relevant god they would be linked to as an Aasimar. The player would like to be a pacifist and play a support role as far as they can feasibly, which is why they would prefer a different Aasimar ability as the scourge/protector ones involve doing damage, and they feel that the current options do not quite fit their character.
Anyone got any better divination based ideas? Or if my idea is balanced?
There are, I think, multiple threads on the forums about "blind" characters and why it's not a great idea if you do a search.
I put blind in quotes because most of the time the player doesn't actually want to have to deal with the limitations of being blind. They want to be able to function more or less normally but with a cool Daredevil (or, in rarer cases, Zatoichi) reskin. If that's fine with you, using their familiar's sight might be one of the better ways to go about it.
As far as the aasimar homebrew goes, 3rd level divination wizard already gets Portent. Why slap on a racial ability that just mimics it? If you want to give more of a oracular vibe to the usual aasimar 3rd-level ability, just shift it a bit so the extra radiant or necrotic damage equal to their level can be added to an attack by friendly creatures within 30 ft, and isn't limited to their own attacks.
In my head now I'm picturing a fallen "oracle" aasimar transforming into something like the Angel of Death from Hellboy 2...
